I have an SPS dominant reef tank. I have been running Kessils and a Spectral controller for a couple of years now. My colors are not bad, but have never quite been as nice as they were in the past with t5 lighting- which was phenominal. So I’m going to experiment with my lighting cycle and see what happens.

Currently my lighting cycle runs 11hrs from 15c:40i in the morning to a max of 60c:100i (measured at about maximum of 350 par). Then it tapers down all the way to 0c:0i.

Starting tomorrow I am going to invert the color schedule without changing the current intensity settings. It will run from 40c:40i to 0c:100i (par still confirmed at 350) then back to 30c:0i.

Water parameters are 1.025- 1.026 salinity, 9.5dkh, 400+ calcium, 0 nitrates, unknown phosphates (presumably a little higher than they should be). I dose with Tropic Marin All-for-Reef daily. I feed everyday and rotate daily between 3 or 4 foods. I do 15% water changes 3x per month and a 30% water change once per month. I use Tropic Marin Pro-Reef salt. I always run a low dose of carbon and a bio-pellet reactor. I’ve got an okay skimmer. It’s just okay.

I’m interested in seeing what will happen with color and growth under only very short periods of time and only at low intensities under full spectrum coupled with long, high intensity periods under only actinic spectrum. Googled the concept worded a few different ways with no results. I have a good feeling about this experiment.

What do you mean by the c:i numbers? I'm not familiar with the spectral controller... is that how you program them?

At first I thought you meant having your lights on all night and off during the day - but I don't think that's what you're doing :D

I have the same problem with what he said

Kessil spectral controller for Kessil lights uses values for “c” to adjust color. 0% is full blue, 100% is full white. Allegedly the Kessil niche is that the full spectrum is represented to some degree in all color settings. “i” is intensity of the light going from 0-100%
