I'm thinking on upgrading my current pump for my closed loop system. so, the limiting factors are as follows:

1. must be silent operation
2. must have 1" inlet and 1" outlet as that is what the current pump is hard plumbed to which is not going to change on the system.

current pump is rated for 2100 GPH with zero head. since there are 3-90 degree elbows on two of the supply inlets inside the tank and 2-90 degree elbows on the other two, there is obviously some friction loss for that. I do not want to change the existing plumbing. But would like to increase the flow as much as possible, I understand that the limiting factor is the plumbing diameter. what would be the best pump to get to increase the flow in my system. Please provide any basic calculation or flow charts that can help me as much as possible. I thank you in advance and soooo appreciate the advice.

sorry correction on #2 above... the current pump has a 1 1/4" MPT outlet and 1 1/4" MPT inlet... all hard plumbing is currently 1" ID schedule 40 pipe which is going to remain..

The highest flow on a Hammerhead is 6000 gph with a 1.5 outlet and inlets. So this would add 4000 more gph to your system. You would have to use a reducer to get it to fit your piping.

hamerheads are extreamly noisy pumps... yes they are powerful but correct me if i'm wrong, looking at the engineering for PVC pipe my size (1" diameter) max. you can push through that is around 3500 GPH.

GPM/GPH Flow based on PVC Pipe Size, ie, How much water can flow through Sch 40 Pvc Pipe Size 1/2" 3/4" 1" 1.5" 2" 2.5" 3" 4" 6"

Noise is one of the reasons that closed loop is out of fashion in reef tanks now days. It would be cheaper to get a CoralVue | Maxspect XF150 Gyre Generator Aquarium Water Flow Device

I thank you for your opinion but please tell me how closed loop is out of fasion? I have had one for 16 years and pump technology has improved imensely... noise is not one of the issues with pumps of this nature. yes there are noisy pumps out there and reefflow hammerhead is one of them. terrible pump IMO...

now the whole idea behind closed loop is that you elliminate ALL power heads from the system so yeah coralvue gyre is one ugly piece to display and i have my doubts as to its functionality from what I have seen.

I am a Maintenance Man of 40 years deal with pumps day in and day out. All of the higher flow pumps are louder than what most people want in their homes. I have put several close looped systems in public aquaria systems. Perhaps a DC pump might work in your system. maybe a waveline pump would work. I am installing a high out AC pump with a VFD in a friends system for a change in night flow on his system.
