Trace elements can oxidize over time and change form. I do not know exactly what is in such products to know if that is an issue, but it is possibly a concern.
That said, I think it is most likely as useful as it ever was.

You may not need all of the elements in such a mix, and some may already be higher than you need.

Look at it this way, would you take a prescription or eat food that is expired. It may make you sick as would expired anything you put in your tank, it could have adverse effects on your coral. Ditch it and buy fresh stuff, your corals will thank you.
