I have some expired fluval iodine that I've never used. It expired in 2017 and wanted to see if it is safe to use

I personally would not pick this mixture even when new, but it is likely OK to dose. Some of the iodine may have oxidized to iodate, which is natural and OK, but not as readily used by algae as iodide.

Since I do not think iodine dosing is generally useful, be watchful when you dose it to see if it helps anything. If not, don't keep doing it just because someone somewhere thinks it was useful for them.

Thank you for the reply, I was planning on adding some to a container where I frag my bounce mushrooms to help with the healing process

Oh, no. It is not a useful dip (IMO).

The antimicrobial chemical (such as Lugols Iodine) is an entirely different form of iodine (containing I2).
