So last Thursday I dosed 2ppm with dr Tim’s ammonia and then on Friday I did my tests all ammonia nitrite and nitrate were high, but today which is two days later now everything has gone down to zero! (Did I not dose enough?) I know it sounds like a good thing but how did my nitrates go down?? I have one big live rock and the rest are dry rock and I have live sand. Also I have 2 hydor pumps going along with my otb filter.

Knowing its API, you might not have shaken the Nitrate reactant and vial enough. I know that shaking it can have a drastic impact on the reading.

Dis you test that you actually doses to 2ppm of ammonia? Have you re-dosed?
I just re dosed 2ppm I’m hoping by tomorrow it’ll be back down to all zeros. It’s just strange my nitrates went down on its own

If you have good quality live rock, it is possible that it is being converted to nitrate gas and released through the surface of the water. I ran my tank for the first year without registering any nitrates at all (I had to dose). A true deep sand bed can accomplish the same thing. Not sure if this is what is happening here....just throwing out ideas.

@Armani, you have 4 different threads about the same thing and have been given very good advice on all of them. Your nitrates are not a problem. You were getting a high reading on nitrates because you had nitrites in the tank.

From reading all of your threads, it seems that you have only been cycling for less than a week. You need to take a deep breath and slow down. Trust the process. There are numerous threads on how to complete a fishless cycle.

Are you sure that the tank is being dosed to 2 ppm ammonia? Have you tested the tank for ammonia shortly after dosing? If you do a test after dosing ammonia, be sure that the ammonia test reads over 1 ppm ammonia. It may not read 2 ppm, but it should be over 1 ppm.

API test kits are not well known for their accuracy.

He just started a new thread where he has added fish and says the cycle is over. UGH

Don’t get your panties in a bunch lol everything is cycled and properly maintained, it’s been up and running for a while before these pics, you see how the first pic all tests are good, that was 2 days after me dosing, and I dosed again after that and everything went down to 0 the next day so i did my wc and everything’s A ok.
