Hi y’all!
I’m about to purchase a used tank and I’m curious about how the over flow works.
Does anyone know if this style has a particular name so I could read up more?
I’ve only ever had a simple set up with an over flow box in the aquarium that contained a bulk head a drain pipe. This one seems a touch more involved.

Cheers!

yup bean animal. Right drain with valve is your full siphon drain or main, middle is emergency drain that should have little to no water flowing and left if your back up drain that should have a small amount of flow.

Actually, the middle is the emergency with zero flow and the left is backup with a slight trickle.
The zero flow in the emergency is what I got hung up on. This will have flow when something went completly wrong with the other pipes. Meaning, clogged.

AND, the emergency pipe should be above the water in the sump.
This way if there is flow in the pipe you will hear it & know there is a problem.

I’m missing the difference from the previous comment. Left is back up, middle emergency, right is primary, yeah?

I’ve been running a single overflow pipe for probably 10 years. I’m glad to be moving up to something that has a back up/emergency line

Thats what I said. Except I said a trickle to no flow I guess it should say ideally zero flow.

Yes, middle=no flow. What he said^^^^
I got tripped up when he said low flow.
My bad. But yes, zero flow on the middle line.

Thank you all for your help! Looks like a good system so I’m going to make the purchase.
