Extending cord length

So we're about to be setting up a 240 gal with an apex. I want the apex to be on the side of the tank. This means that some of the equipment may not be able to reach the apex as well as the apex not being able to reach the outlet. This partly my fault. When creating the fish room I put the outlets 5 feet up to be above the tank to eliminate chances of splashing. Even though the tank will sit 2.5 feet from the back wall. Anyone ever modify the cords of their equipment to reach outlets?

I would just get some extension cords and wrap the plug with some electrical tape. Much safer than splicing and dicing cables. I've only extended control wires, namely the USB cable for the Apex to a remote room. Some manufacturers may sell extensions for the DC sections, I'm thinking of tunze mainly though.

I would have to agree with @Ocelaris on simply using extension cords. If you want to "clean" it up, you could fashion a junction box of sorts. All the equipment ends meet the extension cord ends in the same place and are contained in a "box". It cleans things up while protecting the connections. Just an idea anyway.
