Using a fluval sp4 to feed external skimmer. Do you think it'd be okay to extend the intake with PVC about 8-12"? I need the pump in one spot of sump but want intake closer to the drain side of sump.

Any concerns?

I don't see any problems. But posting a picture of what you intend on doing would help.

Pump will be in sump. Extender in pic.

There is very slight loss from friction, but otherwise not an issue. That's a pretty hefty pump for a skimmer. Are you running a becketted skimmer that needs all that flow. Also, assuming you're running this through a bulkhead as well since you mentioned it's an external skimmer.

When I use to run an external MRC3 skimmer it had about a 2 foot flex hose coming off a MAG 24.

I'm using ultra flex from pump through wall to reef dynamics xrc1000.5 skimmer. About 4 feet head loss so I'm hoping it works out. I may have to dial pump down a little. We shall see

Skimmer intake recommendation is 1000-1500gph
