Have a 40gal breeder reef for some time now. Great setup, with only hob equipment and a chaeto reactor. I'd like to upgrade to sump filtration to cut back on the amount of water changes I'm having to do and overall health of the tank. Looking at getting a lifereef overflow box and either a bashsea 24" biofuge sump or a eshopps rs-75 sump. These are the only sizes I can find to fit in my stand, through the door openings (has to be 11"x24" or less). Looking for experience with lifereef overflows and sump choices. Haven't decided on what skimmer I'll get yet. Help please!!

I had a life reef overflow years ago and it worked great, I’m currently using a eshopps HOB overflow and the RS-75 on my 40 breeder.. love them both especially for what I paid however the RS-75 is on the small side and the return chamber is tiny so without an ATO or constant monitoring it may run dry on you.. it’s probably more suited for like a 20-40 certainly not 75 gallons like they claim however it will easily hold the back flow from my 40b when I shut down my pump and I also have a separate 3.7 gallo refugium tied into it.

Retro,
What return pump and skimmer are you using? I was going to use one my sicce 2.0 return pumps. What is the skimmer chamber size and actual pump chamber size. I know the websites always give some kind of inaccurate measurements. Is the unit quiet, and what's the small pvc plumbing going to the skimmer chamber used for?

The skimmer compartment is 8” x 10” and the pump section is 3.5” x 10”.. It’s pretty quiet to me but everyone is different, they have a video on their website demonstrating sound levels. Check out my build thread link for complete details on my 40b and equipment to date
