External Pump - hums - wont pump

inherited a system - put it together like he had it prior

He has a sump in the cabinet with a external pump that runs back up to the main tank

I filled the top and sump with water and plugged in the pump to circulate and verify that the "moving" of the system didnt create any leaks.

The pump is a customsealife pump model 77820 - it hums but isnt turning the impeller

Opened the pump and made sure it was clean and reconnected - nothing

Any thoughts on where to go next?

With the pump opened up, can you plug it in and see if the impeller turns? Take off everything else, but leave the impeller in.

ok - pulled the head - the impellor assy is magnetic and sticks down to the motor

When it's disassembled and you plug it in, does it spin?

Can you pull the impeller to inspect?

it will spin if you lift the impeller assy off the motor a little bit
