How high do you typically run an external skimmer in the neck? I was running my new skimmer on half power and it overflowed, lucky I had it sitting in a plastic tupper. I am now running it on low with the feed pump throttled at half. I hope once it breaks in it won't be s finicky.

Externals are set differently than in sump models, The water level is adjusted by the feed and wedge pipe with the air supply pump off. Most skimmers like yours do not need the water up in the neck but more like the top of the body before the tapered neck with the air pump off, then turn the air pump on and adjust from there, it will take a couple of weeks to break in before you can fine tune it. if it keeps overflowing you still have the water level too high in the skimmer, or running too much water to fast.
try the wedge pipe wide open then add flow from the feed pump until it reaches the tapered part of the neck, then add your air pump and see where your at. increase or decrease as needed to get it right where you want it. But until it breaks in run it lower as it will kick in when it's broke in and start getting a good foam head.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. It already has a good foam head, that was part of the problem. The skimmer valve is wide open and the feed pump throttled to half. The air pump is running on the lowest setting and the foam is running about an inch and a half below the collection cup.

Is the return water line back to your sump submerged?? If so raise it above the water level as it creates back pressure and causes overflowing on some skimmers. This may be part of the problem and when raised will drop your water inside the skimmer down, And then you can readjust your flow and air pump again. If not just let it run a few weeks and see what happens after it breaks in.

It's not submerged but is about a half inch above the water in the sump. Due to angles I'm the stand I couldn't get it any higher :/

I was able to move drain pipe up to check to see if I had any back pressure. Water level didn't change at all with more clearance,so guess not.

I wouldn't ..its trying to trick you lol give more break in time they can go nuts and overflow easily till broken in.
