So I am setting up my Skimz Monster 202 on my new tank and it's too large for me to run it in my sump (It would fit but I wouldn't get to run my refugium). So my idea is to run it externally in the cabinet. So my thought process is put a pump in the sump, pump water through 3/4" vinyl tubing to feed the skimmer, then pvc adapter to a barb fitting from the discharge, back into 1 1/2" vinyl tubing going back to the sump. The thing I am questioning is will the 6-8" the water has to travel vertically when leaving the skimmer affect it?

Depends on the pump and needed flow for your skimmer to function optimally. Just ensure that you select a pump that once flow restrictions are accounted for still provides that optimally flow rate. Alternatively you can drill your sump and feed it from a lower height.

Just make sure that the return pipe to the sump is lower than the water height inside the skimmer.

That's the part that i'm worried about, guess we shall see how it works when all the plumbing gets here this week.

Skimmer cannot drain ‘upwards’, so you’d likely have to put it on a riser of some kind.
