Howdy folks,
I’m in the beginning stages of setting up my “Project.” I am assembling everything for a 20h QT according to HumbleDish’s excellent guidance. I just set up a 40b Observation Tank with 40# Ocean Direct live sand and 40# CaribSea Life rock. I’ll be adding an AI Prime 16HD and possibly an IceCap 2k gyre flow pump. It’ll permanently house some inverts, perhaps a couple clowns, RG and the like and will serve as an the observation tank after the fish graduate from QT. Maybe I’ll venture into a few corals after some maturation.
All this is ahead of my main project which will be my 220 Fowlr. The plan is to set up this tank into the spring and summer. I’d like to wait for any fish introductions into the tank until after my summer vacation -in other words I have some time here. My main goal is to get it plumbed so I can get some Gulf live rock into it for a few months’ stabilization before summertime.
I’m in the planning stages for my sump. I’m a bit intimidated by this as I’ve never done one before and my tank isn’t drilled. My question is: can an external sump pump setup work sufficiently for a tank this size? I really don’t want to drill this tank. Other than reviewing this site, I have no experience in sumps/refugs.
Any general/specific guidance on this would be appreciated! Pics below!
