Extreme temperatures I've had in my tank

Had mine run 82 just the other day. I panicked as it was a digital temp reflecting off my skimmer cup and looked like 85. Hahah. Normally maintain 78-80. No big swings, just gradual as the weather gets hotter here. I'd rather maintain a constant than try and fight the temp and lead to up and down fluctuation. 82 is max I have ever seen tho and it's not for extended time. Live in an apartment so a chiller is out of my options for the time being. (More equipment means more explaining to better half)
Heater malfunction or got bumped yesterday. 88.

Ouch! I run an in line probe that has a set point, then a titanium heater with digital set point. Just for the double redundancy in case one ever fails.
My tank has topped out numerous times over the years at 85, 86 and nothing seemed to mind.
The oversized heater I have will not let the tank dip below 76 degrees in the winter though.

I have had my tank up to 92 degrees for a few days by accident. No damage happened. One summer, I ran my tank around 86 during the day with halides on for an entire summer, and it was fine. I didn't have a chiller or fans. I don't recommend 92 degrees, but 86 degrees over an extended period didn't seem to cause problems. If anything, it seems like milles and montiporas grew faster at 86. Just to be safe, I run my tanks at 80 - 80.5 degrees now.

In previous summers with my old T5/ MH fixture, I've had my tank get up to 92 for the majority of the summers. The only adverse effect I could notice was that my zoas and LPS grew like weeds and I was constantly having to frag them. SPS didnt grow to fast though. Now I have switched to LEDs and so far this summer it stays around 75-76. Zoas and LPS dont seem to grow as fast now but my SPS has picked up the pace a bit. Coral growth could be from any number of other reasons, but since I don't do regular water changes or test, temp is the only observable factor I could guess at.

Yea it was crazy! ~2-3gal a day on a 75. After a while of that I had to tell the boss (wife) that we either need to turn the AC temp down or I buy new lights.
