It's a Cyanobacteria. You may need more flow to those areas where cyano is growing, and you need to look at your nitrate and phosphate levels.

The tank is a relatively new setup but some of the live rock I bought from Craigslist couldn't have come from there how do I get rid of it

Cyanobacteria in a new system is pretty common. As suggested increase flow if appropriate. What size tank and what type of flow are you using? If elevated nitrate and phosphate levels are to blame than you need to address those levels. Use only RODI water for top off and water changes.

:)

Try phosguard and purigen in your tank. They sell it in 100ml bags. Or add it to existing media bag system in your tank.

It's a 100 gallon tank I have two powerheads and a rio pump if I'm not mistaken I believe all of them are rated @ 700 and yes I just bought a ro/di from BRS. I never heard of purigen,, I'll google that I just went and bought a water test kit I'll go ahead and do a water test and let you know what the parameters are

It's common keep running your tank and cycle and it'll go away... If not you may have excess phosphates in your water
