I got a bonded trio of yellowtail damsels and accidentally got a “bonus” Fiji Blue Devil. Long story short it injured my largest damsel’s eye in quarantine on Saturday night. The injured party seems to be eating and living life as if it’s no bother, but that wonky eye is bugging Me. Is there anything I can do to help? The damsel won’t turn that eye to me and her boyfriends are staying extra close, so getting a decent picture took forever.

The Fiji Devil is in a box inside the quarantine so she can’t injure anyone else until she can go in her own tank. Why do the killers have to be soooo pretty?!

The fish looks really good overall. No torn fins? Are you sure the other damsel did this? Can you treat the tank with erythromycin (maracyn 1)? If so, I would try that, and monitor your ammonia as that antibiotic sometimes harms your biofilter. Just to be proactive, people may suggest Epsom salts. That’s a FW remedy, magnesium sulphate is the fourth most prevalent salt in your mix, adding a bit more won’t do anything.

The eye was normal at midnight and like this when I checked them the next morning. The Fiji was chasing this one around from the get go and I was just expecting some fin damage the next day, but this is what I found so I assume it was her doing. They are all in a 20g long quarantine. 3 yellow tails, the Fiji, a very small coral beauty, and a baby engineer goby. I’m running Cupramine, Prazipro, and Melefix.

Well, the two options I see is do nothing (eye problems often heal on their own) or try erythromycin. My concern with that is that you already have a number of on-going treatments, and the chance of a bad reaction increases with each new med.
