I was wondering if anybody has had this issue before. my female saddleback clown looks like she has it. She was file last night, but this morning her right eye was swollen pretty bad. I have been reading up on it, and as far as I can tell it was caused by trauma. since it's only one eye. It still eats so I am greatful for that. I have a pretty agressive atlantic tang that I think scared it in to a rock or something. How long should I wait before I stick it in a qt and treat it?

Its called popeye I had a tommi tang do it I would quarntine and add a broad spectrum antibiotic if it doesn't go away it will make him loose his eye or kill him then test your water

I read up on it quite a bit. from the stuff I read it says usually if its just one eye then it was probably due to trauma like a scratch from a rock. (this doesn't rule out an infection. but my tank is 180 gallon and very stable. so I don't know why all of a sudden this would happen.what should I test my water for?

Common cause is also a decline in water quality, check for ammonia and nitrates. You should not have any ammonia but might as well mark it off the list. You can try treating with some Melafix.

Quarantine immediately...

The causes are fairly wide. I have dealt with this twice and been successful. Treat with the recommended dosage of Melafix Marine. Make sure you get the marine stuff. Also dose with a teaspoon of epsom salts daily for two weeks. If it doesn't get bettwe, double the dose of epsom salts.

Do weekly water changes of about 50% of the water...

DO NOT USE PRIME as it makes the Melafix Marine toxic and WILL kill your fish...

I have 10 other fish that are just fine in my tank, including a powder brown and Atlantic tang. I will check the parameters tonight when I get home.

cdness, I was wondering is there a difference between Melafix marine and a freshwater dip with methylene blue?
