is it true that rainbow acans give their best color under t5s?
My lfs discouraged me from buying one while running leds because they will turn color making them look like regular reds/oranges.
Anyone with experience with this?

My rainbow lords do fine maintaining their colors under LEDs. They will morph to red/orange if you crank the intensity too high. So keep the intensity down and you'll be fine.

I have had both LEDs and T5s and never noticed one giving better color. The acan in my profile pic was kept under LEDs

Not necessarily.

Yes, I have heard that alot that they will Loose Color under LED but it is more about Spectrum.

I had Rainbows loose color under T5 actually.

I currently Keep all Rainbows I have under Very Dim LED but I ONLY use Blue Light.

And they all Keep their Color.

I use a Single 32 Watt Kessil A150 Deep Ocean Blue Actinic.

They are Kept on the Far Side of the Tank Away from the Light.

LED is the Best but it must be all Blue NO WHITE Light and Dim too.

All Acans will Look Better Under Solid Blue LED but they will Grow Much Much Faster under T5.

So I Keep Rainbows under LED and A and B Grade Under T5.

Ohhh ok.
Thanks for all your help! I just went for a blue and green one today. Already have a red one :) them and zoas are my favorite

I have found that rainbow micromussa lords, previously called acans. Will turn red orange under higher light, doesn't have to be much higher. Just higher than they were grown under. I have had led, halide and t5. All made them turn red orange. Even after moving them to a lower light area. Only new heads would come in rainbow. Old heads remained orange.

That was a good post! I was wondering if they could go back to rainbow after.

Under LEDs you have to find the sweet spot for Acans.
A other advice is keep them well fed with a No3 of cloche to 10ppm and a Po4 of 0.10 or a bit higher.
