So ive had some motnis for a while now, reverse sunset, sunset, rainbow, pokerstar, etc.. All my other montis are doing fine except for the reverse sunset witch is turning white but NOT bleaching what looks like... It was really bright green and it looks like its fading to white and my rainbow which looks like the base is turning brown..... I dont know wat to do.. I have good lights 2 150 watt Phoenix. All params are fine except one thing i might be doing thats causing this.. I used to does DTs 3 part system, Calcium, Alk, and Mag.. I only used to do water changes and add the magnesium becuase the reef crystals seemed like it had enough calcium for the time being.. I stoped dosing magnesium cuz i ran out so now i just do waterchanges every 2 weeks.. Could the lack of magnesium in my tank be the cause of this??

I would almost certainly say yes it did, but I would test just to make sure.

My montis go down hill fast when my ALK dips low.

OK. I tested my params but i did a water change like 4 days ago and my salinity was always at 1.022 so i boosted it up this time to 1.024..

P.H. - 7.8 * A little low maybe? Tested at 11pm lights go off at 12am
Nitrate - 0ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
Ammonia - 0ppm
Calcium - 480ppm
Alkalinity - 7dkh
Magnesium - 1600ppm * thought this was low but a little high cuz the higher salt
Salinity - 1.024

yeah i would say instead of guessing make sure you test. so you can see where all the readings are at.

I had to borrow my friends magnesium test which is why i couldnt test earlier... Now i tested.. What do u think?? I havent moved the montis they have been in the same spot

hummm.. well the parameters all look okay. everyone keeps their numbers at different levels. but at 7dkh i would say alk is low.

i think the magnesium is fine. i keep mine between 1500-1600 with no ill effects.

what about PH? dont u think that is kinda low? Cuz what i have is the DTs 3 part dosing system 1 Cal, 2 Alk, 3 MG.. I dont use it and all i do is water changes every 2 weeks... So if my Alk is low just add Alk? Wont that affect the others?

well yes they all do have relations to eachother i guess. i cant say i understand all that chemistry as well as i should.
however. if you need alk. add it. the only thing i know it will really do is raise your ph. also dont add to much at one time. rather add it in small amount over a day would be better. that way you dont cause too much of a ph spike.
i dont really think the ph is that low.
so if you need alk add the alk you dont also have to add the other two parts. only add the one you need.

OK thanks guys.. I added 15ml of Alk to my 75 gallon reef as opposed to 30ml (wat it says on the bottle)... Ill test tomm night to see where the levels went

Raise ALK - it will then raise your PH as well -

Then watch for a drop in your CALC and MAG and get them back up too.
