So this past Sunday I was sitting at my computer browsing the R2R forums when boom. Power goes out. I've been "planning" on getting a battery back up and by planning I mean delaying for no reason.
So for the next few hours I had tons of fun scooping up water and dumping it back in until the power came back on.
Just a friendly reminder, if you don't have a back up plan, I suggest making one now and don't procrastinate. I'm in southern California, weather was about 70 degrees out, no wind, no rain, no heat, no car accidents that hit a box... power just randomly went out. luckily it was mid day and I was home.
needless to say I went straight out and bought the equipment I needed.

We get ice storms here and after our first one with over $2000 of equipment and livestock at risk, I know have battery backup and a generator. Haven't had to crank it up in 2 years but it only takes one time... Great insurance, if you don't have one get one, a backup plan B.
