So I have a 20 gallon IM Fusion with a 10 gallon refugium and IM 5 gallon Hydrofill ATO. I plan on hooking up the ATO directly to the sump with a Tunze Osmolator 3155.

What fail safes can I put in place to ensure nothing overflows, etc. I planned on using a smaller pump to move the water from the ATO to the refugium and the Tunze pump as my return back from the refugium into the main tank.

Besides drilling 2 small airholes 1/4" under the return line in the display tank, is there anything else I can do to provide a fail safe in case the overflow, or anything else fails?

Well the tunze osmolator has several fail safes built into it it have the float switch and an optical eye to sense the water level and it has a timer inside to ensure the pump doesn't stay on.. apart from that you can add an aquarium controller to it or limit the water in the ATO... you can also install a gate valve on the overflow and a check valve (on the return) the gate valve allows you to shut down the water going into the sump and the check valve stops a siphon from occurring if and when the return pump turns off.
