Most SPS require really stable water parameters which IME can be difficult but doable in a 29gal. Also in a tank that small with a lot of softies there could be a lot of chemical warfare going on between corals. So unless your running a ton of carbon and have really good water movement to keep the slough from the softies off the sps you could have troubles for sure. It may just be as simple as that.

When it comes to sps your never going to be 100% some corals just die regardless how perfect the parameters are but there are easy to care for and extremely difficult ines to care for like any other type of coral. I had sps doing fine in my current dt tank within 3 months of running. I'm not buying high dollar frags but no problems if did no real big lose
