So I plan on adding some fairy wrasses to my current build and of course want to put each one in a qt for a minimum of 4 weeks. Since they seem to sleep in a sand bed and I have a ton of extra sand, is there any harm in having a sand bed in a qt with just pvc as hidding spots other than rendering the sand useless after qt? I've seen people use a small Tupperware container of sand but figured if I got the extra sand why not use it.
Thanks in advance!!

Really? Hmmm. Ok, that's the first time I've heard that. All my research says the usually sleep or hide in sand beds specially when first introduced. Thanks. I guess I got more research to do lol.

Cirrhilabrus and paracheilinus don't need sand cause they form a mucus cocoon when they sleep. Now if you get a halichoeres or macropharyngodon, you'll need a sand bed.

In cases where you do need sand, it's fine to use some in circumstances that call for it. I normally just dump a couple cup in a corner though, I've had a few fish that wouldn't use the Tupperware container.

Ok, the two I am looking at are exquisite and Solon wrasse. Both of which are Cirrhilabrus I believe. Thanks a ton man

You are correct. Very common misunderstanding about wrasses. Great choices!

I have a Solon in my tank which is barebottom. It does indeed make s mucus cocoon and sleeps in the rocks. Beautiful fish.
