Hey guys i picked up a 40B from petco a couple weeks ago and did not get time to get to it till the past weekend. I also bought a metal stand since there will be no sump, im going to have it plumbed to my DT. here is the tank being inspected..

took the tank in the yard and drilled 3 holes, 2 for 1" drains (corners) and 1 for a 3/4" return (center)

I painted the back black as usual and since it was going to be bare bottom i also painted the bottom...hope it looks good :)

Looks cool so far, looking forward to more. What are the specs going to be for the frag tank?

Nice tank! I like your inspector!! :D

I realized i made the holes too close to the sides, i had enough room from the back to fit on the stand but not the sides...so im going to return the metal stand and make a diy stand. im following RC stand template with a few modifications...so far i have the top and bottom frame complete

Thanks, well since it will be plumbed to my DT almost all the equipment is not needed except lighting and powerheads. I might get an ebay led light fixture since my DT has a radion i want the frag tank to have leds as well. im just going to throw in something for water movement nothing fancy.

Thanks! he used to be the size of a softball when i got him :) now all grown up!

what return pump would you guys suggest to run both tanks with? 60G DT and 40G FT? i was thinking a mag 12, I know mags take a lot of heat but my problem is keeping the water warm lol. its in the basement and its cold down here, im talking about 50-60 at night times and a stable 70 in the day. I was actually thinking about adding another heater also

I think that a mag12 might be over kill, you would most likely have to throttle it way back for your over flow to keep up as they can push a ton of water for their size. For example; my return pump at the moment is a mag12 which feeds my 120g display, 40br frag tank and a 12g refugium and I STILL have it dialed back a bit.

I like Mags, especially if you don't mind the heat!
+1
