I'm thinking of putting a falco hawkfish in a 32 gallon with a red firefish, and will they get into scuffles?

Hawk fish will most likely chase the fire fish here n there to establish territory rights. What might happen is your fire fish will spend most of its time near a hiding spot to avoid the falco.

As said already the firefish will be timid towards anything including its own shadow. Make sure you have a lid to keep the firefish in the tank. They are notorious for spooking themselves and promptly carpet surfing .

Scuffles? Very doubtful. More likely the firefish will take one look at the falco and go into hiding. Then after a while it will start to see where, if anywhere, in the tank the falco will let it go. If it doesn't let it go anywhere it will most likely hide until it perishes but not all falcos take over the whole tank if he has a good perch or two and is well fed.

Firefish are not timid if they don't feel threatened but they are peace-loving fish and will hide instead of fight. Mine follow me around while I'm cleaning the tank because they are the only fish in the tank.

I love the falcos, I also have a long nose Hawkfish who's a bit more territorial.

I personally haven't had a falco, but the two hawkfish I have had, a flame and a longnose, have been nothing but outstanding. In fact, they have been some of my favorite fish I've ever had. I have heard that falcos are more aggressive, so keep that in mind. If you decide against a falco, something similar but more peaceful would be a Geometric Perchlet.

I hear those perchlet guys are quite timid and secretive
