Just wantin to know your guys opinions on the falco hswkfish?? My LFS has one and I almost bought it yesterday but decided not to because I don't know much about em. I've heard they're semi-agressive and that's about it. Any help would be appreciated!

Semi aggressive is a good description. They are definitely feistier than flame and longnose hawks. They are quite hardy, are definitely jumpers, and may eat inverts.

I just added a couple peppermint shrimp into the tank yesterday and I have a skunk cleaner in there as well, do you think it would bother them??

It really depends on the fish you have and plan to keep. Most are aggressive so selection of fish is important. They will constantly harass other fish that don't stand up for themselves so you need fish that are able to hold their own or have fish that are larger then the hawk. Shrimp and small fish has a good chance of being eaten. They should also not be kept with larger hawk fish. I myself would not risk adding one unless they are kept with other boisterous fish and I don't have small fish or shrimp.

Shrimp are very tasty to a lot of fish (both large and small).

I've always wanted a hawk and I try to talk myself into buying one even when I know it would be a mistake. I haven't bought one yet and I won't cuz I love my shrimpies and I don't want them to become a meal.

So I tell myself that there are so many gorgeous looking fish in the sea that would get along just dandy with the fish-family that I already have.

My advice to you would be to do your homework and be very selective and cautious of your future purchases. They can either make or break your heart. Have fun and stay wet. [emoji225]

I picked up a Falco hawkfish earlier this month and he's in quarantine with 2 medium sized clowns and 2 Watanabe angels. He definitely is somewhat aggressive, holding his own little territory, but I've heard so many good things about their personality that I knew he'd be going in at some point. He'll nip at other fish if they get too close or startle him, but he doesn't go out of his way to attack anyone. We'll see how he does in the display tank soon, but I wanted someone to keep the hermits in check who are little monsters trying to eat anything smaller than themselves.

That's about what I've heard about them too.

Yeah, I'll add to that. Mine went in the display tank yesterday, and continues to harass the Watanabe angelfish if they get close. But otherwise ignores the other fish. I'm considering getting a lawnmower blenny, anyone know if they'll not get along due to their perching behavior?

Im pretty sure the hawkfish will chase the lawnmower around as the lawnmower is passive while the falco hawkfish is territorial wherever hes posted up at. I love them both BUT I prefer the hawkfish because it adds more color to the community

That's what I assumed. I was trying to stay away from aggressive fish, but I heard so many good things about the hawkfish had to try one. He's not overly aggressive, he doesn't chase, but just keeps other fish at bay.

Yes mines just chase away the redline wrasse whenever he gets to close. the hawkfish is one of my best addition to the community hes such a cool little guy. i just have to train him to come eat out my hands like all the others in the tank

What do you feed him/her? I have been feeding mysis mostly in quarantine and some black worms, but I know they're carnivores, and really didn't see him eat while the other fish ate in the water column. But he's a fat little bugger, so I was wondering if clams or other meaty foods are a treat?

Do you guys that have a falco in your tank also have any shrimp in there as well??

I have a Falco added from a friends tank that he had to break down. In for 3 weeks now and no issues. However, he is in a 210g with mostly mature fish. He keeps to his own and holds his own since my others like to pick on newbies. I also have a lawnmower blenny from same person and is doing great. My tang takes offense to him, but expected that since they eat similar stuff. My tang did that with my old lawnmower too.

The Falco was a great addition. He is fun to find and watch move about. I do not have any shrimp though. My large christmas wrasse takes care of those. At least the peppermint. The blood red I had died after having him over 6 years. Great shrimp!
