Question for everyone. Why is fallow recommended 76 days but coral and invert qt is recommended at 60 days? Wouldn’t this theoretically be the same?

76 is an old rule while not a problem. based on studies with parasite life cycles, it is 6-9 weeks which is 45-60 days

So I can just go 60 confidently? I have temps at around 79-80 degrees
yes but of course do one good observation to assure all clear. At 80-81, you are sure to lessen the life cycle of protozoans

The reason for 76 days was based on an experiment - I believe in the 1990s in which they kept a cold-water fish (i.e. the temp in the water was rather low, compared to a reef tank). Most of the infectious particles of CI died within 30-40 days. However, one strain survived for 72 days - and so as an insurance policy, people have used 76 days. As far as I know there has been no estimate of length in a reef tank - so people said let's try 60 days. 45 days is normally used if you are able to raise the temperature to 81, since the infectious agents die off more quickly. At least this is the theory. If I were going to fallow a tank - I would probably use 76 days - only because as long as you're doing it for 60 days (which is a pain) - another 16 days is not a big deal.
