A little over 30 days ago my DT broke out into a bad infestation of Ich or Velvet I am not sure which. Either way I set up a nice size 60 gallon HT and seeded it with some of the rock from the DT. I know this isn’t recommended but I had a tank full of fish that looked like they would not make it through another day and I did not have the time to do a proper cycle on the new HT. Fast forward 32 days to today and we are nearing the end of the Cupramine and Prazi treatments I have been doing.
The problem I now have is that my DT will not be ready for fish for another 40 or so days. As I understand it I can’t bring down the copper levels in the HT because the ich is still alive at this point And could re Attach to the fish. I also can’t transfer the now disease free fish back into the DT yet as it still had 40+ days of fallow left.
Is my only option at this point going to be to leave the fish in poison (copper) for yet another 40 days? Or put them in a bucket for 24hrs while I breakdown the tank and sterilizer it. Then set it up and run them through the cycling process? Both option seem brutal given what they have gone though thus far.Thankfully the fish do however eat well but some don’t have their normal “happy” colors.
I am hoping for some miracle option here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
