Fallow period, UV sterilizer, and my DT

Hey Folks,
I am pretty new to this SW stuff. I just had my first very expensive and unfortunate learning experience. My DT was doing great. I had placed several tangs, a few angels, etc in it. I followed some pretty strict QT criteria. I didn't treat unless I saw something and my quarantine was 4-5 weeks. Maybe a little short I am finding out now. Anyway, I found this gorgeous morrish idol that was super healthy and eating extremely well(bad choice I now know). The FS had him for about 3 weeks, the first 10 days being in QT and being treated. I brought him home and thought hey, he is safe. BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!

Very soon after he broke out with velvet. I was able to capture 5 fish and QT them. They are doing great. The remainder I was able to capture but not soon enough. I lost 5 others. End of story.

My DT is now running with no fish. It has been fishless for about a week. I know that is not even close enough to consider putting fish in. I think 6 weeks is more appropriate. My DT, a 120 gallon, also has a 65 watt UV sterilizer. I have left it running 24/7 since the outbreak. So I do have a question. Will a UV sterilizer shorten the fallow period? My gut says no, but I thought I would ask. Is there anything I can do to shorten the fallow period? It does have some leathers and mushrooms in so no copper. Maybe that promedic stuff?

Any suggestions or constructive scolding would be appreciated.

You do need to wait the entire 6 weeks to erradicate velvet. UV may help control the free swimming population. It will not eliminate the dinospores though.

Safest fallow is 76 days for ich.

Flukes, Brook, and velvet are all gone within 6 weeks.

Those dang Moorish Idols. I too made the mistake and bought one. Wiped out everything but a Xmas Wrasse and inverts.

They are a must for QT. I put them right there with acanthurus tangs as far as being succeptable to parasites.

Of course I'd recommend proper QT for all new additions.
