well I lost 2 clownfish days apart

I don't know what it was. Ich. Velvet. Brook.

Anyway theirs no more fish in my tank. Just corals snails crabs etc.

How long do i leave the tank fishless to let whatever disease it is die off.

Also I'm reading mixed opinions about raising and not raising the temp.

Also durring this fishless period do I need to do water changes or just top off evap?

Skimmer on or off ?

Thanks.

I think 72 days is considered the minimum fallow period to break the ich life cycle. I went through a similar catastrophe and lost all fish about a month after starting my first saltwater tank. I stayed fallow for 12 weeks and added a skimmer during that time. I fed the tank a little every day to keep the shrimp, crabs and snails happy and did regular water changes of 10-20% per week.

I also used fresh water dips and the tank transfer method on all new fish after the fallow period. I have had no disease problems since restocking the tank about 6 months ago.

76 days fallow. No need to change temperature. Keep between 75-79. Do normal water changes and keep it topped off at normal salinity (1.026) using RODI. Keep skimmer on. It might also help to vacuum the sandbed if you have sand (it might help remove any tomites that may have decided to cling to the sand. It can't hurt to vacuum). Keep feeding your snails/crabs/corals.

Don't add anything "wet" to the tank except for fresh,
clean [emoji97].

Good luck and hang in there. It's a long wait.

76 days will cover anything that might have killed your clowns. @Empress gave you good advice. I would add that QT for all new fish in the future would be a benefit.

Thanks everyone. I'm suspecting brooklynella looking at pictures reading articles. The clownfish looked like I rolled them in flour. Like a powdered donut or something. And it lingered a few weeks.
Velvet kills in 48 hours from what I read.
And ich isn't a death sentence.

Also the behavior the fish showed matched the symptoms of brook. Hiding from lights. Staying at the bottom. Lethargic. Not eating.

Well whatever it was I have coral and cuc to take care of while we wait the time.

And yes I have a QT now. I'll QT the fish a month-ish prior to the 76 day mark.

Thanks again
