So I have been looking for a a Zebra Eel and my local fish store got one in but they are calling it a “False” a Zebra Eel. I tried doing research nothing is coming up on a “False” Zebra eel. Basically the LFS just said it’s a different species of Zebra eel. Does anybody have any information regarding this?
Thanks

Get a scientific name from the lfs. If not and you want to take a chance, I would keep it in a species tank. Verify that it is a pebble tooth, if it ends up being a fang tooth, all your fish will one day be eaten. A zdbravis a huge eel so I'm sure you already planned for that. The sail on the top does remind me of a gymnothorax genus eel, which is a fang tooth.

This comes up as a Barred Moray, fishbase lists it as a crustacean eater which I believe makes it a pebble tooth. :)

Just did some further research myself and found that “Echidna” is in fact pebble tooth. I just wanted something different than the common snowflake eel. I think what I am looking for is a true Zebra eel!

Yes it is a pebnlebtooth, but not really comparable to a zebra. This eel is usually very shy and does not have the personality of a zebra. They get about 1/2 the size if the zebra. If you are set on a zebra, this will not soothe your itch.

Banded Moray Eel - Echidna polyzona
