Fancy corals

Where do most designer (for lack of a better word) corals come from? Are they just prime pieces that have been collected and fragged over and over again or have they somehow been cultivated by reefers?

Some have rarely been imported/collected more than once. Those "rare" morphs exist simply by hobbyist propagating.

I think wwc bounce mushroom is a good example. There was one original colony imported, a very distinct morph of rhodactis. Since 2012 there has not been another identical morph collected. All those that are in the US are from propagation by hobbyist of that original colony.
