Fans for rimless tanks that look good and actually work

I know its been asked a hundred times, but which fans out there actually work for rimless tanks and are aesthetically pleasing? The Tunze aquawind looks interesting but i see plenty of mixed reviews... the GHL propellers look nice... looking for some real world setups. I don't mind paying more if it looks good and is built to last. I've tried clip on fans and a huge honeywell turbo fan in the sump area, but my sump is extremely packed and there is not a lot of water surface area to work with so the temp savings have been minimal.

I'm working with a 48"x 20" x22" size tank and would like to keep the look clean and uncluttered.

And is the best place to mount on the ends blowing length wise or should I get 2 smaller units and blow front to back? One way might look better than the other?

Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

I’m really liking my GHL. While I am using the GHL controller to adjust speed automatically I know any other controller can run them to with just turning on and off the electrical socket.

That looks pretty good, what kind of cooling result are you getting? Looks to be a similar sized tank as mine (perhaps yours is bigger). I’m needing at least 2-3 degrees of temperature reduction running t5 and halides mid day.

I got a 3 degree reduction when I tested it. Lights on for 2 hrs. Obviously the tank is new and I’m not running lights full time yet. So other than my test run I can’t give much else in numbers.

The tank edge that that fan set is mounted to is 24” wide.

If I need more cooling I’ll just add a second set and blow from back to front instead of lengthwise.

I use a vornado and do not mount it to the tank. I set it on something nearby. It is ugly, but functions VERY well. I remove it in the non-hot months.

Thanks - don’t have anything nearby and the tank will run hot year round. Thinking I’m going to order two of the 3 fan GHL Propeller Breeze 3 units and mount to back of tank for best looks.

Here's the GHL on my tank. You probably could ramp the speed based off of temperature with other controllers. GHL uses a 0 - 10V port to do this utilizing the PropellerControl.

Looking at those GHL fans, it seems like they don't have an A/C plug? I run an Apex, not GHL. What can this be plugged into? My current fan is plugged into my Apex and kicks on automatically if my tank temp rises above 80 degrees.

I also only run my fan in the summer months when I need a little additional cooling. But I'd still love for it to look nicer when I do.

I gotta say that looking at all these photos, none of them "look good" IMO. they take away from the cleanliness of the rimless tank. just my $0.02

I had the tunze and remember turning it on and not being able to tell if it was pushing air...so weak. Definitely looks cool but doesnt do much!
My tank sits in my basement which is always cool, my Mhs are on for 5 hrs a day and during the summer temp never gets above 79 degrees. If I were going for a fan, would go for the Teco E-Chill
Seems like would work well and I think looks sharp

But then I have a chiller sitting right outside / next to the tank. And no room under tank if i wanted there, plus they don't advise installing in a closed space. Plus additional noise? Chiller is definantely ideal, but the location of the tank for me doesn't work.

I pulled the trigger on 2 GHL Propeller Breeze 3 fans to mount on the back wall. I'll post some real world temp updates and a shot of the tank. Should look "good"...

Well - fans installed and helped tremendously. Temps are now between 79 - 81 or better. These two fans are keeping the tank cooler by 4+ degrees F. I'll post a picture tonight or tomorrow showing how they look.

I run the 4 fan unit on my tank and a single fan unit on my sump that kick on at the same time. I have the temp controller set at 79. when it gets to 80 it takes about 5 minutes to drop it back to 79 this happens about 3 times a day in the summer. Much more efficient for my needs than a chiller.

My reefer 525 had some temperature excursions after upgrading to T5 hybrid.

Really like this one, hides pretty well, fixed my temp excursion issue, it is however unable to be controlled from my apex due to it defaulting off and requiring a button press after AC power cycle. I just keep it running at all times.
