That really should be an asterisk... Or an obvious duh... If my tank was overdosed by 1000 ppm Mg... I'm doing a water change! Lol. Screw the mantra! [emoji23]

Oh sweet...I was gonna say I got to get a piece of that but I actually already have a frag from you. It finally started growing and coloring up after a recent alk spike I had. I really got to get my build thread going!

I had to do a water change after my extended power outage almost exactly a year ago, I did 175 litres in a 550 litre water volume.
Lost a lot of animals, nutrients went through the roof.
I haven't done one since as far as I remember, I will always intervene if it is a major oops! ;)

Yeah, its crazy. I've had a couple people ask "What If" scenarios and I'm like... Of course I would do a water change if that happened. The alternative is watch my corals die!

I don't run a "system" as such except trying to make it run as a system.
I started to do less and then stopped doing water changes a few years back.
I didn't see the point!
I designed my current "upgrade" to run with as little intervention as possible hence a sump refugium and a display refugium!
I am going to set a doser up in about 10 days, very long story, new in the box, had it for about 2 years!
I will get a set of tests done by my lfs in about 10 days time, the tank will be 3 years old, you guessed it, in 10 days time! :P
I get it tested once a year anyway!
Someone once said to me that I was "experimenting" on my corals, I did take offence, I just want to make water conditions my animals like, a few struggling corals have gone to my lfs, the last one was a while back.
My animals might not grow as fast as some but they do grow and look happy, that makes me happy! :)

You do it the right way, by just listening to your corals and paying attention to what's going on in your system.
