FarmerTy's 215-gallon SPS Tank

That bloody mary stag is insane. How big is that colony? Would love to see a full shot of it.
It’s not huge. It encrusted the entire 3” tile but only a little bit of vertical growth so far. I’ll try for a full encrustment pic next go around with the DSLR. :p

So I got my calcium reactor hooked up to backup system finally after 8-9 months since I started the tank. It went into winter hibernation shortly after startup when my second child was born in November. I put some tester montis and torches in it and left it be until the last couple months where I started to get it ready for acros.

It finally supports acro life! I have an Apex EL hooked up to it to control the system and have an alkatronic to control alk. Has the same lighting as my other tanks, Radion/T5 hybrid Aquaticlife fixtures.

Main reason for the system is to backup my main system and as an overflow for corals/anemones. Happy with the progress the last couple of months.

Looks good. What lights do you have over that tank?

This piece is hypnotizing in person. It is a Malaysian acro... almost looks like a raspberry flavored shortcake.

ORA Bellina is a rare ORA piece that they actually don’t even have anymore. They lost it some years back. It’s super sensitive but when happy, the contrast of purple and green can’t be beat. To those wondering if it’s a purple bonsai, no, the growth form is very different. More delicate bushy appearance then the more solid and branching look of the purple bonsai.

Looks great! You seem to be one of those rare people on here with the skills to keep everything thriving!
I have many skeletons in my closet to get to this point... acro skeletons mostly... or as I like to call them... reactor media. ;)

Wow!!

I may sound crazy but after all that sulfur denitrator nonsense, I may put it back online like my buddy @bubbaque. What do you guys think?

I feel like most of my issues may have stemmed from lowering nitrates too fast and compounded with the fact that my temp was super low.

What else am I supposed to do? You dropped an awesome shot of your frag tank and it caused me to lose all train of thought.
You won for explanation of the day. Even my wife would applaud and she’s heard ALL of my excuses.

Good story...So, good friend in town who’s an avid acro collector as well gave me this piece and said... I want you to take the color challenge. It was mostly brown and he said it was a TGC Northern Crush. 1 year later... after almost pulling it out and kicking it across the room from growing from a turd frag to a turd colony... it turned into this.

I’m glad I held on because it finally rewarded me. I guess this is the new Vivid Rainbow of the reefing world... ugly brown until one day... it’s not.

I think you should. If you use the sulphur denitrator again I think that you or anyone else that uses one should know that it needs iron to work(I haven't seen anyone else mention this), and I think that a certain minimum iron level might make it work a lot more efficiently. I wonder if the issues you had could have been the result of the sulphur denitrator making iron go too low.

I’ve actually never heard of this Jon. Do tell more!

Did you read this somewhere or just familiar with the process of Denitrification with sulphur?

I read that it requires iron.

Thank you for the link to the article! Very interesting! I've never heard this discussed before either with sulphur denitrator. I will have to send off for an ICP test and see my levels. Thanks for the tip!
