FarmerTy's 215-gallon SPS Tank

Are you sure Adam named it 1.0 and 2.0 and not just people in the hobby ? :)
He has 4 listed as 2.0 on his website currently. But again, I don’t know honestly.

I know he has two versions of the Bleeding Tree and Frankenberry. I have the more “desired” ones of both in my opinion. If it’s hobbyist that figured out there is a 1.0 and 2.0 and he switched it without saying, that’s even worst in my opinion. Not sure if that’s what happened or not.

Either way, I think it can be all avoided by renaming if it’s a different piece. I’m all for the 1.0 and 2.0 business going away unless it’s a unique morph of the exact same coral.

I wouldn't blame you for doubting me, but can you believe these two are from the exact same colony I got several years ago as a "mariculture raspberry indo" milli? The thing was so furry for years, but now has more color but no fur. Not growing like it used to either. Meanwhile 80 other pieces going fine. These acro creatures are a very fickle bunch.

I believe it. I won’t touch wild/mari milles if I can anymore. I’ve probably collected over 50 maris/wilds over the years with a decent survival rate. The ones that always die on me are the milles. I think they just have a terrible time adjusting to cultured conditions... perhaps because they feed so much in the wild?

They’ll do well for a short amount of time and get your hopes up and then... slow death for the next year.

What’s going on with excessive recession on the base?

My guess is white/red bugs. 3X Interceptor 3 times over three weeks hopefully shut that down. I never really saw them, but the slow base necrosis is/was a primary symptom according to several.

In the bigger picture, there was a gradually shift over a couple years of running nutrients around 3/.03 to 15/.13 that most corals liked. This guy freaked out and hasn't shown significant PE in over a year.

That’s no fun! They are very difficult to see. About the size of a grain of salt.... but they devastate acros

Can I just rant and say while I have the highest respect for Battlecorals as a business and as a premium acro vendor, I’m disappointed in this 1.0 and 2.0 business. Just rename the acro.

Scientific names with a colour variant would be much better as a naming policy. We would actually be learning something from it and have more chance of developing better husbandry.

I support this concept. But the problem is it's likely that the collectors don't know what they're collecting either. unless you have some really well-trained eyes and a picture book for reference, it's gonna be pretty hard to tell. And even harder once the collected pieces got broken down to tiny 1-2" sticks.

I agree that the initial I.D. will be hard but after that it will be no more difficult keeping track of the piece to remember It's name than if it was a trade name.

Tegastes acroporanus is one culprit, but the only potential (and SUPER tiny) culprit I found did not look like the internet versions of TA pictured. My son was able to grab this pic.

Sorry, crossed conversations. I was talking about the coral names. But no doubt scientific names could be useful with pests too!

Whoa whoa whoa... everyone is getting too deep and philosophical! Let’s get back to pretty pictures. :p Here’s some calming... on your way to bed pictures for you.

Thank you. I feel better now. Even the herbal tea wasn't getting it done until this.

I use my Reef2reef build thread for my more refined... better quality pics of my corals and system and for discussion of my processes.

My Instagram account would be more for the random things I do all day and quick snaps from my cellphone, random videos... like the items below. Follow me there too if you want to see the other side of my reefing adventures. Plug over!

I'd like to see those pics too, but IG is a hard no for me. As much grief as we give you about not posting acro pics, I personally enjoy ALL of the pics you post here. The story of the beautiful acro's isn't complete without the rest.

It’s a different crowd over on IG so I tend to try to tailor the posts for the audience over there. Main thing is random cellphone videos of things. If reef2reef was a little easier to post videos, I’d try to double up on the content on both channels. I can at least try to update here with the random pics I post on there as well and merge both worlds a bit. Haha.

Let’s see if it’ll let me add this video without too much trouble.
