So i got a cheap api test kit and i wanna measure my KH ( magnesium) but on the test kit its says under KH 0,40,80,120,180,240. But i thought magnesium was by the thousands? like 1200ppm,1300ppm etc? what is wrong? do i multiply this number by something?

Does it say "KH carbonate hardness test kit" on the outside of the box?

I don't think api makes a magnesium test kit.

No Mg is magnesium KH is your alkalinity

+1. It sounds like you got them mixed up.

CA is calcium and should be in the 350-500 range
KH is Alkalinity and should be in the 7-14 range
MG is Magnesium and should be in the 1100-1500 range

I don't reccomend API test kits for anything except maybe a goldfish tank. Personally I use Red Sea pro test kits but there are plenty of good ones out there. API is not one of them.
