Fastest dino treatment ever?!

So i over did a water change and got dinos- surprise surprise lol. Confirmed case of Ostreopsis via microscope (and a lot of it). Super fast growing- after 5 minutes blowing it off the rocks and substrate new bubbley tendrils were growing right back every time.

I got a $19 UV sterilizer on amazon and ran it right from my return. Rated for 10-40gallons. Suggested gph is 200 and im running it at probably 90gph- nice and slow. Installed it YESTERDAY! I do not see a single strand or bubble in this tank this morning!

Is it totally gone? Highly unlikely. But dang the results with this UV are looking promising! I’ll leave it on through the weekend and do another microscope sample on Monday to see if Im clear.

Uv is helpful, but best practice is to put it on a timer and run at night. You don’t want to kill everything

Definitely makes sense since the dinos only go into the water column at night. What else would I be concerned about killing during the day though? Im assuming most of the bacteria is adhered to the hard surfaces.

At night to boost pH. Running it full time could sterilize your water and kill off beneficial organisms.

You got lucky and your strain of dinos goes into the water column at night. Try putting a blanket over the tank for 48 hrs with the UV on to ensure they get toasted.

Also keep an eye on that sterilizer I have a couple leak

Hey don't knock my $19 sterilizer hahaha!

No I am very happy it was Ostreopsis. I've dealt with amphidinium before and that was a battle!
