I’ planning to get a pair of anthias fat head sunburst. Do they do well as a pair. My tank is 80 ga with wrasses and blue thorat trigger

I have found in my 65 that they do better singly. I had a pair but the larger one kept chasing the smaller one into the corner. It could also have been the tank size that contributed to the aggression.

Like other anthias species, they establish a hierarchy with the dominant fish keeping others inline. To complicate things, according to the divers I spoke to, they are found loosely as individuals not as a group per se.

If you want to try a pair, then buy small juveniles and let them grow and sort out dominance. I had a trio that started like this for a few years. Eventually the alpha female turned on the smallest fish and killed it. Like everything in the hobby, YMMV.

Borbs are completely different. Much more bold, extremely easy to feed and, as they get bigger, very bossy IME. With many anthias it pays to have quiet tankmates, but with borbs that’s lessof a worry.

Enjoy your fish!

As mentioned they’ll probably fight unless they’re a pair. I was lucky enough to have a pair and they did well together for many years. It was very difficult to tell them apart even when side by side.

Where they similar size, for my next build I was thinking a pair of these and though about a small and a large

Yea one was a lot larger than the other, but other than that it was difficult to sex them. Males are usually larger.

I came here to ask about the exact same questions. Looking to add this fish to my 80 gallon. I have a flame angel, clowns, and some wrasses in there. Should this be kept individually, pair or a different configuration?

They may squabble especially at feeding.
