Today I started to think fate might be real.
About 4-5 months ago I installed a stand alone 30g fuge beside my 40b. Both piped into a 20 long sump. I've known all along that if power went out the two would overflow the sump. Someone is home 90% of the time and all were warned to start bailing in the event of an outage. Lol
I figured with winter coming the chanse of power loss is much greater. So I started to look for a temp solution as we are moving in a year and will have a bigger sump. I came up with the idea of installing a large siphon overflow on the side of the sump that would hang in a plasic storage container beside it. The siphon stays full but inactive unless the sump overfills. I had the overflow come in and basically put off installing it being lazy lol.
Yesterday I desided to finally get it done. Used a 22 qt container which fit perfectly. Tested it by killing both pumps. Filled within half inch of the top and worked perfectly.
Today I was cutting back algae in the fuge and All of a sudden the breaker for my living room/kitchen snapped. That has not happened in the five years I've lived here. Freaked me out, I ran to the kitchen to flip it back on. But no luck it would not turn on. Frantic I ran to the closet to grab an empty bucket and a cup. Forgetting that I had installed the overflow. Came back to the tank And the tank was already Emptied of excess water. The overflow had worked perfectly and I had completely underestimated how quickly the water would drain.
After about 10 mins the breaker was able to be turned back on. Not sure what overloaded it as nothing had changed. Or why it would not go back on for 15 mins. But I am sure my downstairs neighbor and building owner would have been very upset had I not installed that overflow just yesterday..... 5 1/2 gals of salt water would have been pretty damaging.
So I say, it is either a super coincidence or FATE!
