I started a side tank with my old Red Sea Max 130D that was used as a non-medicated quarantine tank to my main Red Sea Reefer 525XL. Since I am pretty much done with adding fish in the main tank and that some of the inhabitants are eating my zoas and acans, I thought I can keep some of those corals in the side tank. I recently got 2 fish online for the side tank, a Pink Streak Wrasse and a Fathead Sunburst Anthias. The Fathead came in at about 3.5". It is eating and swimming about. Since it is so big, I am thinking about putting him to the main tank.

Anyone have experience with a Fathead Sunburst in a relatively busy tank? These are the fish that are already in the tank:

Copperband Butterfly(4")
Bluestar Leopard Wrasse(3")
Magma Wrasse(3")
Melanarus Wrasse(3.5")
Midas Blenny(3")
Yellow Belly Regal Angel(4.5")
3 Evansi Anthias(2.5")
One Spot Foxface(4")
3 Neon Gobies( 1")
Whitetail Bristletooth Tang(3.5")
Purple Tang(3")

Do you think it will get bullied by the tangs? My Regal is also kinda bossy. He charges at the Copperband pretty frequently when they are feeding.

Here is the Fathead one day after I got it. It came out of the cave later in the day.

Sorry it is kinda blurry with the 5x zoom form 12 feet away. The last 7 seconds is clearer.

curious what people say as i have a sunburst in qt now.

i will say i was thinking at first oh man this fish barely goes for food no way i can put him in my DT he makes my copperband look like an aggressive eater, but once i put a couple more wrasses in the QT with him he upped his food competition accordingly to where i'm not too worried now

That's good to hear. What are you feeding the Sunburst? And what other inhabitants you already have in the display?

Currently see mine eating ReefNutrition R.O.E. Tried Mysis and not sure if he took a bite of it.

I’ve had three sunburst in a 265 with yellow, powder blue tangs, flame angel, and scribbled angel. Never had any issues with the activity. That said, they did kind of just ‘hang out’ midway in the tank. I guess they were just Wimbledon fans that just watched fish going back and forth...

i mostly feed LRS/rods/mysis and then sprinkle in random other stuff. mine doesn't seem to go for pe calanus or fish eggs, but does go nuts for the enriched brine stuff and the other 3

i wouldn't say i have aggressive fish, i just have a lot of fish. so i feel like whoever goes in there is gonna have to compete a bit, but i just added a pearly jawfish and he's pretty tiny and doesn't mind flying out of his hole to get at some food

Once mine settled in he could keep up in a busy tank. They don't need a lot of swimming room though ..they just tend to hang out by their cave.

I think I am close to leaning towards moving him to the display tank. I gave him some .8mm Sustainable Aquatics pellets and he ate it. That is what I normally feed the fish in the morning. In the evening, I hand feed my Copperband and Regal Angel clam and the other fish gets the "floaties" from the clam. The tangs, foxface and wrasse all take a chunk from the frozen clam. I doubt the Sunburst would come and grab a chunk from the forcep.
