As anyone ever had or heard of issues with fauna marine LPS pellets? I've always heard rave reviews. I picked some up awhile back and feed to my chalices and Favia with no problems. However every acan I've feed with these have receded from the center out. I have no issues with my tank. Stable parameters and healthy coral. The acans I haven't fed fauna Marin to are perfectly fine. So far I've lost 3 different acans, which is about $450 dollars of collector acans. Am I the only one? I think I must be I've never heard one bad thing about them.

I don't think I have tried the pellets on my acans yet, but I can't be sure. I have fed the pellets to; plates, frogspawn, hammer, ricordea, candy canes with no ill effect. However, I tried the ricordea/zooanthid food on my ricordeas and they were just weird looking the next day, slightly shriveled and just upset looking. They recovered but I don't plan on using that food again.

That's just it, I don't want to bash fauna Marin. I didn't have any ill effects on my Favia. However it has on my acans. I have no other reason than to believe it was the fauna Marin.

Weird. I just fed my acans the same food on Wednesday with no issue. Actually, they are looking better. The one is recovering from getting stung and it looks better after I fed it. I'll keep a close eye on them.

I feed once every 2 weeks, never had any problems. Are you letting them soak for a few min before feeding?

Fauna pellets are a great food, but they are extremely rich in nutrients. Most corals should be fed very sparingly, and make sure to blow off any excess food. I've seen the pellets literally 'burn holes' in the tissue of Scolymia when left for a few hours. Personally I don't feed corals FM LPSP more than once every 10-14 days, but have experienced great results with it.

I feed my acans the pellets once a week usually. Haven't had any issues with it. Been using it for awhile now. Kinda weird that it's happened to your acans. Sorry to hear!

That's probably been my issue. I may have over fed it.

It's incredible easy to get overzealous with feeding of our beloved corals. Most corals are just not used to being hit with such a great meal all at once. Little bit here and there will go a long way, and help keep parameters in check.

I feed roughly once a week. But only 1-2 pellets per mouth on acans and blasto. And chalices usually 3-5 pellets for every 2x2" chalice.

Mine always look better the next day. But over feeding can make them upset. Like mentioned extremely potent.

This has to be one of this best threads... I had the same experience with my rainbow acans that i nearly killed by what I now realized was from over feeding FM LPSP. When I noticed something was wrong I thought it was initially to much lighting and possibly over feeding so I reduced my lighting and feeding. That initially didnt work so in a last didtch effort i stuck the acan in the back of my tank in a decently shaded area with decent flow. By doing that the acan started to bounce back. The only think that wasnt the same was the color so I decided to place back to an area with more lighting. After doing so I noticed 5 more baby heads popping out. :bounce: More recently I have only been feeding on a weekly basis and its always something different, keeping it varied. All s well now and they are doing great.

I don't directly feed corals anymore because shrimp, hermits and fish would steal the food from the mouths of my LPS. Some to the point they would rip the mouth of the coral trying to dig the food out. Peppermint shrimp and hermits were the worst.

Could it possibly be something in your tank tearing up the acans to get the food out?

I recently had a problem with my acans related to FM LPS. My tang loves it so much that he picks at the corals to get them to spit it out. I had acans start to rtn and I think this could have had something to do with it. Before the tang if fed FM LPS at least once a week and my acans loved it and grew well.

The inverts will go inside the coral later to get the food. You can hold em off for a while...

I really only have a problem with my fire shrimp stealing (he only steals from a bunch of candy canes and a mushroom). But I have not had any problems with the FM LPS pellets and my acans.

I have found when dealing with shrimp and feeding corals. It works best to give the shrimp a little something to keep him entertained. I use a small piece of table shrimp. Give it to him directly and he drags it off to the back of the tank to eat on. And then most the hermits go towards it as well haha. Then feed corals a pellet or 2 and hang out and pick off and move any inverts that think they wanna steal. Never had any ripped open this way.
