I just purchased Fauna Marin ReBiotic. Most of the rock in my 120 is 25 or so years old and I know nutrients are bound in the rock.
A trusted LFS told me it would work wonders in "unbinding"-for lack of a better word-PO and helping with nitrate.
Tough to get exacting instructions but I read to "bypass" or turn off media reactors. Think it would be OK w bio pellets but I run Chemipure and GFO.....wondering if I can discontinue for 6 hours, like they recommend w protein skimmers?
Any feedback out there?

It is my understanding that this product will "revitalize" the live rock in my tank, the majority of which is 25 or so years old, leaching phosphate and who knows what else.

I think you are fine to remove/bypass the use of GFO or chemipure for 6 hours if that is the question?

I laughed at this though. Seems 1/2 of reefers want to age their rocks quicker and the other half want to clean their old rocks to make them like new :)

That was the word FM used. I'm hopeful that I will see a benefit, as I have a few first hand testimonials, stating that after 4-8 weeks of usage, the rock did look better and seemed to be releasing some PO and nitrate levels in the systems were lowering.

What does it man the rocks were releasing some phosphate? Taken literally, that happens without anything being done, and isn't something most folks want to happen (except in an out of the tank treatment).

Rocks are not generally a significant source of nitrate (unlike phosphate), unless covered with dead organisms.

I do not know exactly Randyhttps://static.faunamarin.de/Werbung/HTUs/FM_HTU_Rebiotic_100natural_ENGL.pdf#:~:text=Here%20is%20where%20FAUNA%20MARIN%20REBIOTIC%20comes%20into,activated%20with%20water%20and%20poured%20into%20the%20aquarium..

IMO, that brochure contains lots of random speculation without any supporting evidence. Might new bacteria be useful? Yes. Might it be useless, yes. I see nothing about removing phosphate or nitrate from rock.

Anyway, one line caught my attention as emblematic of companies saying things that may sound good, but are just ridiculous as written:

"Since this product contains only natural bacteria, there is no danger to humans and animals."

lol

Come on. Have they never heard of bacterial infections killing people? E. coli? tuberculosis? Salmonella? Lysteria? Tetanus? Syphilis?

No danger there. lol

I get your points and having been a distributor/mfg sales rep, in the industry, I used to cringe at some of the wording and promises.
I had an extensive discussion on this product w 2 knowledgeable industry folks and before selling it, they tested it out on a few of their systems and gave it positive reviews. I'll give it 8 weeks and see for myself.
