picked up a favia coral frag yesterday. By the time I made it home I saw a bunch of hitchhikers in the bag. So I dipped , scrubbed the base and turkey basted it and got all the baddies off. Placed it into dt and started to watch it. One of my blue legged hermits were perched ontop of it and picking at it. Noticed some of the frag bleached . I removed the hermit and left the frag in place. Took a look this morning and the whole frag is bleached except one tiny polyp. I think I may have been to rough with it. Should I remove the frag or leave it in tank go see if it recovers? It has like a slimy residue on the bleach portions.

Thanks in advance

That’s a pretty odd reaction.

I’d see how it does.

If the slime stuff is flesh coming off. Then then toss it

how long do you think I should keep a eye on it for. I think its flesh. tried to get a picture butits not coming out detailed enough

Could be a day could be a week. Really hard to guess.
If the flesh is gone in the morning you’ll know.

Still can’t figure out why a mild dip smoked that coral

not sure I dipped a duncan 3 days ago from the same lfs and it is doing great fully open.

here is a a video of what its looking like.

Dang. That thing got smoked.
yah thats what I said lol looks crispy. moved it to my qt tank just in case it decides to come back around. Talked to the lfs and they told me they dip the corals before placing them on display and I informed them the bag had a bunch of flatworms so there is no way I was putting it in my display without dipping. take a look at the bag prior to dip and dip mix.

Ahh. I wonder if the worms had a toxin they released.
