Hello,

I posted this in the propagation section but didn't get any responses.

I have this favia that is maybe outgrowing his rock and this one piece is essentially dangling by a thread and I was curious if I could just literally use an xacto knife to cut off that piece and glue onto a small rock. Just unsure if that is ok for this coral or will cause die back.

Thank you for any info.

Seems like an easy way to frag to me. Should be fine. Favia usually do just fine being fragged. Just make sure you try as hard as you can to avoid the mouths and that should work!

Appreciate it Jaax, just wasnt sure as I have no experience fragging. You mean to avoid the mouths while cutting?

Just make sure to go around the outside of the circle of the polyp, not through the center.

Gotcha thanks!
Good luck! I recommend an iodine dip after fragging for the new tiny piece.

Any way to take the rock out it is on and frag it outside the tank? Fragging in the tank should be okay... but not usually best practice.

Ok I can do the dip. Yup I can get it out of the main tank no problem. Appreciate it
