Favia questions

First time favia owner here, wondering about how this thing works. It's been in my tank for about three weeks. Its polyps (look like fiber optic cables, clear with neon green tips) started appearing for the first time in the last week, which I'm hoping means that they're acclimating.

I've noticed that when the tank is dark or when the actinic lights first come on, more of the polyps are out and they appear longer. (hard to photograph, there are more than visible in the pic). However, they withdraw during the daytime lighting. Is this normal favia behavior? I have them in a high light area. Any other general favia advice would be appreciated.

Normal. thats how they eat. they typically do that at night, or low light. a lot of corals have them, and they're looking for their food. all normal.

exactly what @saltyfins said. it is rare to see them during the day.

So, are they filter feeders AND photosynthetic?
I feed my corals finely chopped up mysis a couple times a week- if the polyps are tucked in at daytime, is there any point to dusting them with it?

I doubt it. I broadcast feed my tank at night with zooplankton. but that is it for most of my corals. I target feed my torch and BTA's maybe once a week.

The tentacles are feeding tentacles and they will eat small meaty food such as cyclops and small mysis. They could also eat flake or pellet. I don’t think they really care for “powdered or dust” food but have read mixed reports.

In day time they absorb light.

I grew this one from one polyp. Took 2.5 years lol

I never directly feed mine. I keep nutrients where they should be, possibly a bit higher...and light. they snack on whatever they grab I guess, but they're all growing just fine
