So I have a Favites that is way too big for my tank as a single colony and would like to frag it.
It is on a thin substrate, so I could cut it up with a dremel with diamond blade, I also have a diamond blade tile saw.
Having never fragged a brain before, I am leaning towards the tile saw for quick/easy/less handling.

Suggestions? tips? After cutting care? Any help will be appreciated.

Oh, and while we are at it, anyone willing to take a stab at an i.d.?
Thanks

Too bad you have to frag it. I would use the tile saw (band saw) method. Make sure to use water too for heat protection. Then dip in Revive or iodine for a bit then rinse in saltwater. Should be good.

Tile saw would do fine. I don't know if I would run saltwater through mine and I'm not sure if people use ro when cutting corals. I always have used tank water in the bandsaw.
Favias are pretty hardy and hard to kill. I have even used the hammer and chisel on them, but I don't recommend that if better options are available.

The tile saw I have is a radial arm type, not a bandsaw...I am only able to make straight cuts with it. It does have a waterpump, which I am willing to run Rodi through....I am hesitant to put saltwater through my saw though.

I have easy access to iodine, Revive I would have to order online. Do you dip the entire coral in iodine, or paint the cut edges?

Thanks

Definitely do NOT paint on straight iodine. You would have to dilute. I can not tell you how much because I do not dip cut corals.

Rinse in a diluted bucket of revive and iodine if wanted. Since it will be a small amount of water, I would just use a few drops. Basically to give it a yellow hue to the water.

Run saltwater through it, then when you're done run 2 or 3 full rinses RODI or tap water through it.
