I'm planning to order a number of fish for my tanks and have been informed that they ship at 1.023. Since my tanks run at 1.025 I will likely have to acclimate for salinity (and given past experience, 1.023 can mean lots of things that aren't 1.023 including a fish I received from one vendor at 1.018).

So, the question is, if you've got a few fish to acclimate, what kind of containers do you like to use? Do you ever acclimate fish together (even if same species) or always in separate vessels?

I generally just use a 5 gallon bucket, but have recently moved to a qt tank that I would move into directly now most likely.
One thing worth noting is that fish which are shipped for a period of time, once the bag is opened and exposed to air, the ammonia level can start to quickly rise in the bag water

I probably should have mentioned that the fish are coming already quarantined.

At what salinity is it really ok to just temp and drop?

In the past I've tried to get a bucket going with new saltwater at tank salinity, then drop it down to match that of the incoming fish so that I can move them pretty much straight from the bag to safer water, then follow vendor recommended acclimation before adding them to the tank.

I usually just get one new fish, but for multiples I'm thinking I need as many buckets as there are fish and inverts?

Funny, I usually keep all of my empty salt buckets but just recently got rid of them all because it was getting silly. Mistakes! Time to start a new collection.
