I'm not having any success with meaty foods so far with a Starry Blenny. He is very healthy and eats the little algae I have sprouting on my glass and live rocks so far but that will be gone soon. What is your favorite algae foods? I was looking at Formula 2, Hikari wafers and Spirulina flakes.

Hikari seaweed extreme, they don't need meaty foods. They should be eating vegetation. You can do Nori or any of the dried seaweed.

Nori is one of the better algae choices available. Two Little Fishes has a few color varieties.

For pellets or flakes, I would second the Hikari seaweed extreme.

Re: Nori by Two Little Fishies. Most of my fish especially like the "Purple (not Red) Sea Veggies" . It may just be my fish but LFS said their fish seem to prefer it also. You could get the Purple & Green Sea Veggies.

Nori aside, I've had good luck with various Spirulina based flake foods like Ocean Nutrition's Formula Two, OSI Spirulina, TetraVeggie etc. Frozen foods like Emerald Entrée, & Veggie Delight are worth a shot too, but just be careful with the frozen foods though. In most cases they usually break up into very small pieces so you might want to use a spoon and dish out small portions at a time. GL.

Most algae foods, outside of nori and dried algae from Julian Sprungs, are mostly everything but algae. Here is the first five ingredients of Hikari Seaweed Extreme. Dried Seaweed Meal, Wheat Flour, Fish Meal, Krill Meal, Cuttlefish Meal,. Almost all Spirulina flakes are mostly fish meal with little spirulina added. Read the labels.

I tried Seaweed Extreme and no luck so far. He seems to go for the algae on the back of the tank so I will place the algae clip there with the Nori. So far no luck with that either. Maybe he will go for it eventually.

what is the difference between the different color veggies on BRS?

I don't know the exact difference between the green, red & purple other than the color. The green &purple have the same texture. The red is more twisted/wrinkled. My herbivores peck a little at red but it is not a favorite. My naso loves green nori (any brand). I buy cheapest bulk green sheets I find available. My other tangs definitely love the purple Sea Veggies the most as a special treat, but eat green as their staple.
My blenny would eat floating nori scraps from tangs eating. So algae flakes etc work with them.

FWIW, the purple and green are seaweed processed into sheets (in the case of the green, same as nori from the Asian store). Red is actually dried unprocessed seaweed, which you will see when you rehydrate it.

I don't know if there is a difference with regards to the red, green, and purple sold in dry form but I do know that I used to feed seaweed from IPSF it was colored and natural. From Hawaii's Kona cost I recall. It is different like @ca1ore mentioned in the red was string and thin. The Green was more traditional leaf and yellow was a mix. Maybe feathery. I believe they are different though in Green was Ulva sp with yellow being Gracilaria and red being Gracilaria parvispora. My Kole Tang loved the stuff. I'm thinking about buying another variety pack and using it has part of a refugium. It was pretty easy to grow.
