Favorite Centropyge?

Rare and expensive: Centropyge boylei, Centropyge interruptus, Centropyge abei, Centropyge debelius
More affordable: Paracentropyge multifasciata, Centropyge aurantia, Paracentropyge venustus, Centropyge potteri

Potters is my favorite. Don't have one now, wouldn't put it or any other centropyge in my system because of nipping.

I once said sod it and put a bicolour in my reef. The only thing it nipped on was favias, so I got rid of them. It's probably the least reef safe angel but I love them and you only live once. Would never recommend one to anyone with corals but with any angel you need to take the chance.

If I was going to do a harem it would be with African flamebacks.

Hi all,

Wondering what your favorite Centropyge angels are. Looking to include a pair of Centropyge in an 8' tank.

Thanks
Drew

In terms of all around bang for buck the Coral Beauty is tough to beat. The Flame is beautiful but mine was a jerk and a coral nipper to boot.

Coral Beauty. Have had the best luck with them. Plus they look great.

This is also the one I've fallen for hard, but may never own. The $3K price tag is painful enough. And then, there's the wide variation in appearance of specimens and the unlikelihood that you'd wind up with the 'perfect male' specimen shown in all the photos unless you happen to live in Japan (nor would you necessarily want one that had just been caught in the wild at that size.) But the real deal killer at present is that it's not a tropical water species, and I would have to run a chiller to keep the water at 75F or preferably quite a bit lower.

Some pictures of centropyge shepardi

It is so hard to capture its beautiful, vibrant orange. It is one of the most intensely beautiful hues of orange I have ever seen in person.

Melas (keyhole) angel (a little large for a dwarf angel at max size, but that is what they are recognized as online). Flame Angel or Potters for color.
